You may have heard of OBD systems. Please allow me a brief description. On Board Diagnostics self check every time you start your Smart Car by Mercedes-Benz. The computer looks for values from many different sensors, when these systems are fully warmed up, or “awake” the system recognizes it's “readiness”. If all is ready, your car will not set any diagnostic trouble codes or DTC's. If it is not happy it will signal with a message indicator light or MIL.

Now any Smart Car  owner with a PC or laptop can access all the cars systems. The MAGUS diagnostic system for Smart includes premium features like automatic model recognition as well as a short test! Great illustrations pointing out most major components. Access live data in all modules, powertrain, body, chassis, and instrument cluster. Read ECU part numbers and software versions, read and clear codes in all systems, just like the dealer does! Only the factory software has more than the MAGUS for Smart. Engine includes starter, charge air fan, turbo wastegate, oxygen sensor heater, throttle valve, AC compressor, fuel pump and tank venting.

Airbag, sorry no airbag activations. LOL

Transmission includes a relay test and gear shift actuation and clutch position “teach in” functions. Lateral acceleration sensor zeroing.

Central electronics includes turn signals, foglight relays, coolant fan, defroster, F & R wiper, and central locking.

Instrument cluster includes pointers, indicator lamps, and LCD display. 

Access the high speed CAN and the MOST entertainment systems. With this system you can even code the instrument cluster! Set throttle body adaptation! Transmission adaptation! That is more than 95% of the shops can do on your car. As a matter of fact if your mechanic finds out you have this he will borrow it when he works on your Smart.

Achieve independence from the dealer. Clearing a check engine light from a gas cap left loose or clearing a misfire code is easy with the MAGUS for Smart diagnostic system. Avoid dealership appointments or manipulations. When I read in the SmartCar Of America forums that the dealers will not help you do a simple oil service reset without taxing you I could shout! Have greater confidence in car repairs that only knowledge of your cars systems can bring.

The OBD systems will set a code if you mistakenly “key on” when any systems have been disconnected, like if a bulb is out or you removed the radio, for some reason. Even “key on” with a seat removed for detailing will set a DTC. With the MAGUS system for Smart, you can reset all of those. Without leaving your garage.

Minimum system requirements include 1 Ghz speed on the processor, 2 is better. 512 of ram, 1 gig is preferred. HD free space 1 gig. RS-232 is better and more secure for programming. Windows 2000, XP and XP pro are best. Vista is OK after we load some special drivers and specify the COM port.

RS-232 is in some cases a better connection than USB. Most consumer computers do not have this any more. Included in the kit is the RS-232 cable from the PC to the MAGUS multiplexer. The Multiplexer, and the OBD-II cable that goes to the car. The software is included on a CD for those without the Internet. An instruction manual. You may need the optional USB to RS-232 adapter.

After your purchase , updates are free. Tech support on connectivity issues is included on the initial install. Tech support is available for additional diagnosis and is included in ADRC charges. Multiple language choices are available.
