Mongoose as a PassThru Device

The Mongoose offers users a J2534 compliant device at a low cost. The device features a direct connection to a laptop or desktop PC via a USB2.0 full speed connection. All of the electronics are contained in the OBD-II connectoer shell, making for a compact and rugged vehicle communications solution.

The Mongoose is powered by the USB interface, so there's no re-initialization necessary if the device is unplugged from the vehicle.

Getting to Know Mongoose

There are 5 variants of the Mongoose J2534 device:

  •  The ISO/CAN Mongoose supports CAN, ISO-9141, and ISO-14230/KWP2000.
  •  The GM Mongoose supports High Speed CAN, Single Wire CAN and J1850 VPW (GM Class2) protocols.
  •  The FORD Mongoose supports CAN, J1850 PWM (Ford SCP), and also provides the programming voltage on pin 13 of the OBD-II connector required to reflash many Ford vehicles.
  •  The IMPORT/MFC Mongoose supports Can, ISO-9141, ISO-14230/KWP2000, short to ground on pins 1, 9 & 15 as well as 5V to pin 12.
  •  The Chrysler Mongoose (SCI/CAN) supports the CAN Bus (capable of ISO-15765, GMLAN, J1939, andISO-14229), J1850VPW, and Chrysler SCI.

 The Mongoose cable with the PCMSCAN is one of the best choices in affordable diagnostics.  It does the basics like clearing codes, reading codes, etc. 

EXCEPT

The Mongoose makes it different from other diagnostic tools because of its ability to reprogram ECM and ETM modules on foreign, and domestic cars.  These programs are available via subscription from the manufactures website due to the J2534 mandate. 

This requires access to allow programming, without expensive cables for each manufacturer!

The PCMSCAN allows viewing, charting, logging and playback of diagnostic data in real time via the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic data port. It also allows viewing and clearing of vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's), Freeze Frame data, and other vehicle information.

 

 

This Class 1 Bluetooth Adapter has a range of up to 100M ( 328 ft. ) for only a few dollars more than a Class 2 adapter which only has a range of 9.14M ( 30 ft. ) ten times the distance. We bought a Class 2 for $41.99 from a local retailer, but we offer the Class 1 Unit for $100.00
